Wood was a very important resource to the Vikings as they used it for building houses, and the famous Viking ships. The Vikings respected the wood, and understood how to make use of it. They believed the wood held the world together, which is symbolized through the mythological tree Yggdrasil, the roots of which were said to grow into and draw nourishment from three rivers, each symbolizing basic values in Nordic mythology.
